The Electronic Sports Industry

The Electronic Sports Industry, also known as E-sports, has been around for more than 9 years. E-sports is like physical sports, there are players and teams with managers, and people watch them on TV. The exposure to the public and gaming community makes it a platform for advertising. In this case, mainly IT companies advertise through E-sports due to the target market being IT users and gamers alike.
The E-sports scene, both for entertainment and profitable uses, can be seen mostly in the Europe and American regions. Established and successful E-sports companies gained huge revenues by sponsoring top level players, financing them to world class tournaments, event coverage, and tournament hosting. Among the top games played in the western region of our globe includes Counter-Strike 1.6, Counter-Strike Source, Starcraft, Warcraft 3, DOTA, and the list goes on.
The Korean E-sports scene however, is in a whole different league compared to the rest of the world, particularly and especially in Starcraft. In Korea, Starcraft is a career. Top professional gamers earn hundreds of thousands of USD annually, and a lot of professional gamers make a living out of Starcraft itself. The same goes to the E-sports companies that sponsor them – they’re as huge as any other companies in Korea.
