International E-Sports Festival 2009 (Suwon, Korea) »
Written by: Ash 04/11/2009 01:44:22

International E-Sports Festival 2009 aka IEF 2009 was held in Suwon , Korea from 30th October 2009 (Fri) to 1st of November 2009 (Sun) . With much pleasure, DuskBin.StarCraft   (Sen, RushGooN, LBH , jaystar)

and DuskBin.Counter Strike  (pixl, aumei, fungbi, perhaps, protege)

were all qualified from their respective regions in order to participate this event with the exception of  Sen who was actually invited for this event.

The whole DuskBin team arrived on the 29th of October without much hassle, accommodations were provided by the organizers just as we got into the beautiful city , Suwon. It is a town located about 1 hour driving distance from the country's capital Seoul.  It was unfortunate for the players as our Chinese StarCraft players had to follow their chinese mates to another hotel due to the limited number of rooms available.

Day 1 of International E-Sports Festival 2009 :

Players were required to perform a rehearsal before the actual opening ceremony took place. Flags representing players from different countries were visible just as the leader from every region was holding their respective flags high.

Stars like Niki Chow,

Shinee,

Girls' Generation

and many more around Asia were seen to be getting ready on the stage to make it an interesting night for the audience.

Opening ceremony started at around 7pm in the evening with big guys to deliver speeches for this awesome event. The crowd was getting bigger and bigger as time went by which I assume most of them was only there for Shinee and New Generation Girls as they went really crazy when the likes were performing.

The draw for brackets started epically later on the same night. Format for both WarCraft and Counter Strike were decided to have a group stage beginning and 1st place finisher from every group gets to advance to the semi final playoff stage. WarCraft group was firstly drawn with Group D being the group of death due to the likes of Grubby, Lyn and co being in the same group. Faces of the korean players looked to be really relieved because 3 of the korean favourites were all placed in different groups.

Shortly after, it was the time for the representative of every Counter Strike team to step out and draw a group themselves. It didn't take our beloved player Counter - Strike 'perhaps' too long to cool down the whole team's nervousness as he actually took a considerably satisfying draw for their particular group which only consists of a Korean Repinz, Japanese The Siberia Railroad and Chinese wNv.

Even though wNv was the obvious favourite to proceed from the group, the team DuskBin.CS was all ready to cause an upset and bring a big shock to the whole world with their aims to advance to the semi final.

StarCraft was the last game to be drawn and the initial format was actually a BO1 with double elimination. There was a short drama with most of the players were actually against the original idea and had a 'protest'. A while later, organizers accepted the idea of having a group stage format instead and the draw went on. There was a lot of funny moments as some of the foreigners had different emotions after being placed in groups that they either do or do not desire. The group actually ended up like this
