DT-35 Demystified

DT-35 Demystified »

I had the chance to get my own DT-35 imported directly from Korea thanks to Duskbin.Marine. The DT-35 costs 10,525 Korean won or approximately 10.00 USD excluding shipping. A plentiful of Korean progamers uses it for a reason. Some say it’s because of the common availability at low prices. Some say otherwise with high performance. I’ll get to that in a bit.

Competitive Real Time Strategy (RTS) needs a few important things off a keyboard.
-Easy click-ability
-Perfect key size
-High response rate
-Anti Ghosting

For players to perform multiple actions quickly or actions per minute (APM), it depends on both player skill and keyboard delay. Keyboard delay affects tempo and caps maximum potential of a player on the assumption that the player is of course very skilled. To maintain high APM, it also needs to be easily clickable. Otherwise, stamina becomes a problem where the games may last up to thirty minutes or more of constant clicking. Additionally, players tend to use multiple keys simultaneously, hence anti ghosting is preferred to avoid a deficiency effect. Key size is relative from individual to individual but it should be generally acceptable.

 Old school look

It has Korean lettering in addition to the standard text. It comes with a PS/2 converter and some versions have armrests. There is also a  gamers’ edition that is said to be capable of pressing 16 keys simultaneously. I didn’t have the gamer edition but it shouldn’t be significant for RTS since Anti Ghosting is primarily for First person shooters (FPS). RTS depends more on the response rate. The DT-35’s layout is very similar to the SteelSeries 7G, a flat box with additional raisers at the back.
