Razer Salmosa Optical Mouse Review

Razer Salmosa Optical Mouse Review »
Written by: Marksman 26/12/2009 21:24:19

The mouse was packed in a stylish box with the usual performance description and common gamer quotes. Inside the box was a starter’s guide, several papers about the mouse, an important certificate of authenticity, a Razer CD and the mouse itself. The drivers were to be acquired from the Razer website, the norm of gaming products.

The case

The mouse is so fast that it disappeared from the box!

The Razer Salmosa has two sizes. One is a medium and the other a smaller version. The price difference is noticeable as well. Anyone who’s interested in the Razer Salmosa is given the power to choose according to the size of their palm. Anyhow, the mouse is symmetrical in shape. Razer says that the Salmosa is an ambidextrous mouse and can be easily changed in the software. The mouse has thick rubber coating on top and smooth plastic at the bottom and sides. The mouse has only two CPI settings of 800 CPI and 1800 CPI. The response time is the standard 125 Hz, 500 Hz and 1000 Hz. The settings are changed at the bottom of the mouse. This means that the mouse doesn’t necessarily require the Drivers Razer provided to customize your settings. However, that also means no option of multiple profiles is available. Without a saved profile, you will have to adjust every computer you use the Salmosa on to your comfortable settings.

Despite not having a necessary need for the software, it is still very useful. It can’t configure CPI or response time since it’s changed by hardware but it has much good functionality such as adjustments for the X and Y – axis, macros, and finer windows speed control and so on.

Software made to precision

The Salmosa is also very light, the lightest of its class. This makes it very easy to move, added with a triplet of white smooth plastics to guide the mouse accurately. Thus, the Salmosa 1800 CPI actually feels much more than the heavier gaming mouses at the same CPI.

It's not the best right now if you consider it performance wise. It's been out for years and Razer have been releasing many new gaming mouses.
